One purchase, up to 3 machines, no surprises.
Plain terms for a simple product: a one-time purchase good on up to 3 machines, with a free tier you can prove restore works on first. Downloading or buying DeckShot means you agree to what's below.
The licence
Backups for every app you have are free and unlimited, forever — no key, no connection needed. Restore is free too, for one app you choose; you can change that choice freely until it's been restored once, then at most once every 30 days after that. A licence lifts that limit: $13, once, per person, active on up to 3 machines at a time. Deactivate a machine from inside the app to free its slot, then activate the key on another.
The window itself never locks, on any tier. Browsing your backups, the inspector, the diff against what's live, trash and settings all stay open whether or not you're licensed — only the restore of an app beyond your free one waits on a key. Your backups are never held hostage for it either way: each is a dated folder of ordinary files on disk, readable and restorable by hand without DeckShot open, and a licence lapsing never deletes one.
If a licence doesn't work out, the refund line is flat: "14-day refund, no questions asked." See Refunds for how to ask.
The free tier
Backups run for every app you have, for free, forever — no key, no connection needed. Restore is free too, for one app you choose; changing that choice is free until it's restored once, then at most once every 30 days after that. A licence unlocks restore for every app.
Payment and pricing
The licence is a one-time payment, shown in full at checkout before you pay and handled by a payment processor. The price may change for new purchases, but a licence you've already bought is yours to keep on its PC — a price change never revokes it.
Acceptable use
Use DeckShot to back up and restore your own machines. Don't resell or share licence keys, and don't try to circumvent the licence check. That's the whole of it.
Warranty and liability
DeckShot is provided as is. It's built to back up and restore carefully — it always takes a pre-restore safety copy before it changes anything, and it tells you honestly when a restore didn't take.
But no backup tool can promise a third-party app will accept a restored file, and DeckShot can't be held liable for data loss caused by that app, your hardware, or your own actions. To the extent the law allows, its liability is limited to what you paid for the licence.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the new version is posted here with a date. Continuing to use DeckShot after a change means you accept it.
Stop rebuilding what you already built.
Set it up on a good day. After the first run it is a filing cabinet nobody thinks about, until the day it is the only thing that matters.
