One purchase, up to 3 machines, no account.
DeckShot backs up every app for free, forever, and restores one app you choose for free too. Here is exactly how the licence works, how to manage it, and the open-source server behind it — no surprises, no lock-in.
One key, up to 3 machines, and nothing to sign into.
You never create an account. A licence is a key, tied to the person who bought it. Buying it and entering it are the only steps — there's no sign-in, no profile, nothing to lose the password to.
Choose a free app and restoring it costs nothing, forever — no key, no connection needed. Backups run for every app regardless; restoring any other app needs a licence.
A licence is a one-time purchase, $13, active on up to 3 machines at a time. Activate the key on each and restore stays unlocked there — checked offline against a signed token, so it works with no connection at all.
Switching computers, or just out of slots? Deactivate the licence on any machine from inside the app to free it, then activate it on another. The key is yours, not the hardware's.
Your key, your receipt, and the machines it's active on.
Lost a key, need a receipt, or moving to a new PC? All of it lives in the licence portal. Sign in with the email the licence was bought with — the same place issues the key and frees a device slot.
The licence server is open, the checks stay on your machine.
DeckShot's licence server is keygate, released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3. It runs unmodified here, so the licence's network clause is met by pointing you to the upstream source.
keygate source ↗Buying a licence covers the DeckShot app itself, which is a commercial product. The open-source part is the licence server it talks to — not the app, and not your backups.
The licence check contacts that server only to activate a key, refresh its signed token, and note a best-effort count when a restore runs. Your backups never leave your PC — no cloud, no account, nothing about your configs.
Stop rebuilding what you already built.
Set it up on a good day. After the first run it is a filing cabinet nobody thinks about, until the day it is the only thing that matters.
