DeckShot // backup and restore

Put your setup back to any night you choose.

DeckShot keeps dated copies of every Elgato app's configuration on your PC — taken nightly, and again the moment a config changes — then puts any one of them back in a click.

Not a folder you copied once and forgot.A dated, verified history of every config on this PC, and a restore that saves what's live before it touches anything.

DeckShot // 001
Why you'd want this

An update rewrites your config, and the setup you spent a weekend on is gone.Rebuilding it from memory takes hours you don't have mid-stream. DeckShot takes the copy before the rewrite lands, so the version that worked is still there.

01An update ate it

The most common one. The copy from before the update is one click away.

02A new PC

Point it at the same folder and put every app back where it was.

03You broke it live

Mid-stream, mid-mix. Restore the copy from this morning and keep going.

04You just want the old mix

Named backups, not timestamps — “Party chat mix” is findable a month later.

Watch it work

Two loops, and neither of them hides a step.Left: a backup being taken and read back. Right: a restore, including the copy it makes of what's live before it writes.

NOT READ

Missing segments are grey, not amber. The bar shows how much was read; the pill carries the verdict.

Day one
First run

Pick a folder and I'll start keeping copies.

I found 7 Elgato apps on this PC. Nothing is backed up yet — choose where the copies live and the first run takes about four seconds.

Then it stops asking

After the first run there is no dashboard to check and no schedule to maintain. The window exists for the day something is wrong.

NIGHTLY 18:00ON A REWRITEON AN UPDATE
How it works
01Detect

It finds the Elgato apps installed on this PC and reads where each one keeps its configuration. Nothing to point at, nothing to configure.

02Copy

Nightly, and again whenever a config changes on disk. An app update triggers one too — updates are when configs get rewritten.

03Verify

Every copy is read back section by section. If something didn't parse, the backup says so instead of showing a tick it hasn't earned.

04Restore

What's live is copied first, the app closes, the files go back, it reopens. If it refuses them, your way back is already on the list.

What it keeps
01Stream Deck

Profiles, key actions, plugins, icon packs, devices, preferences. The largest config in the suite, and the one that hurts most to rebuild.

02Wave Link

Inputs, mixes, outputs, filters. Six inputs and two mixes, restored exactly as they were mixed.

03Camera Hub

Devices, image settings, scenes. Every look you set up per camera.

04Control Center

Lights and scenes, including the ones you only use on stream.

054K Capture Utility

Encoder, audio, output paths. The settings you set once and never want to find again.

06Virtual Cam

Output configuration. Small, and impossible to remember.

07Facecam firmware

Shots, exposure, and the firmware version each backup was taken on.

08Game Capture HD

Kept even after you uninstall it — the backups stay, the row just says the app is gone.

09Anything new

A new app in the suite is picked up on the next run and joins the nightly schedule on its own.

What it admits

Four words, and none of them is a guess.A backup tool that only ever says “done” is telling you less than it knows.

HEALTHY

Read back and every section parsed. Restorable, and DeckShot will say what restoring would change.

CHECK

Taken, but something didn't validate. Still restorable — you just know before you commit.

CORRUPT

Written, then found unreadable. Not restorable, and DeckShot names the likely cause rather than retrying forever.

UNREAD

This app's config is a blob we can't parse. Copied faithfully, promised nothing.

Questions
Does it keep working without Pro?

Backups run forever, on every app, with no licence at all. Restoring one is the paid part — and the trial includes restore for 14 days so you can prove it works before paying.

Does anything leave my PC?

No. There is no cloud, no account and no telemetry. Backups are plain files in a folder you choose — a local disk, an external drive, or a network share — readable without DeckShot installed.

Windows and macOS?

Both. Same app, same backup folder format, so a folder written on Windows restores on a Mac.

What if an app rejects a restored config?

DeckShot tells you it refused and that the app is running on defaults. Your pre-restore copy is intact and one click away — a failed restore costs you nothing but the attempt.

What does CORRUPT mean?

The folder was written but its contents don't parse — usually a write interrupted by sleep or a full disk. DeckShot reads it again on request, and if it still fails it says so rather than offering a restore that can't work.

Why does an app say UNREAD?

A few of these apps store settings in a format we can't parse. Those get copied and put back on request, but DeckShot won't claim it verified them.

How much disk does it use?

Configs are small — most apps are tens of kilobytes a copy, Stream Deck's icon packs are the exception. Set how many to keep per app (30 by default, 60 for Wave Link) and older ones roll off.

What if I uninstall an app?

Its backups stay exactly where they are. The row just says the app isn't on this PC any more, so reinstalling and restoring puts your setup straight back.

Can the folder live on a NAS?

Yes — a network share works like any other folder. Deleted backups move to a trash folder inside your backup folder rather than the Recycle Bin, which doesn't exist on a share.

DeckShot // set it up on a good day

The first run takes about four seconds.

After that it's a filing cabinet you don't think about, until the day you need it.
